Remember how excited we were when Fox announced that our beloved Fringe would receive one more season? That excitement has now been tempered, with the Fox announcement last night that the J.J. Abrams series Alcatraz, starring Sarah Jones, Jorge Garcia, Sam Neill and Parminder Nagra has been cancelled.
THR reported the news, along with the pickup of Touch. Although I try to employ a personal philosophy of appreciating each episode of a well-written, well-produced, well-acted show, and not harbor resentment for not getting more, it’s still sad to know we won’t get any additional episodes of this terrific series.
The best epitaph of all comes from Alcatraz co-creator Bryan Wynbrandt, who tweeted this:
Hey y’all. It’s been a helluva journey & sharing it with you made it all the more worth it. And if you must know, yes, it was time travel.
Alcatraz revolved around the fictional and intriguing plot that all of the prisoners (and a few others) at Alcatraz disappeared in 1963 when the prison closed, and were now somehow reappearing without having aged. And that was just the beginning.
Best of luck to all involved in the production.
