Fox Baiting Brannon Braga To Explore Final Frontier

Fox is looking to develop a new sci-fi television series and they’re looking at former “Star Trek” producer Brannon Braga (also co-created “FlashForward”) to develop and produce. Braga, who is working on Fox’s “24” seems to be Fox’s muse. 20th Century Fox TV Chairman Gary Newman describes Braga’s proven value to Fox that lead to the network’s development deal with him:

“Brannon quickly became integral to the success of the last couple seasons of ‘24′” said Newman. “We thought it was a great idea to have someone as talented as he is here to develop. He’s known for his ability to write genre programming, and as a studio, we love that programming. It takes advantage of all the new opportunities the digital world gives you to connect with your rabid fanbase.”

Braga speaks on his relationship with Fox:

“Creatively, Fox and I are very much aligned. The kind of shows they do and the way they develop, it’s an innovative group. We get along very well.”

Whether or not this new series will involve space travel, it is perhaps too premature at this point to answer this early on, but it is looking up for the sci-fi community to see that the Fox network is acknowledges the power of the sci-fi fan base.

[Commentary]

I’m excited to see what Braga will come up with for Fox, but I gotta say that I’m still bitter over the cancellation of “Dollhouse”. Who’s with me?
