Whew! We were worried recently when Alcatraz got a new showrunner and was planning some rewrites, especially since there were rumors that Touch might nab Alcatraz‘s spot. No worries, they’re BOTH coming to us; Touch in March with a preview in January, and Alcatraz with its season starting in January.
Here’s the press release:
TOUCH, the distinctive new drama created by Tim Kring (Heroes) and starring Kiefer Sutherland (24) will debut with a special preview Wednesday, Jan. 25 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT), immediately following AMERICAN IDOL (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT). The uplifting drama, which makes its series premiere Monday, March 19 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT), features Sutherland as a widower and single father haunted by an inability to connect to his mute 11-year-old son. But everything changes when he discovers that his son possesses the gift of staggering genius – the ability to see things that no one else can and the patterns that connect seemingly unrelated events.
J.J. Abrams’ (Super 8, Star Trek, Lost) chilling new thriller ALCATRAZ will debut Monday, Jan. 16 (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) with a special two-hour premiere event. The series then makes its time period premiere on Monday, Jan. 23 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT), following all-new episodes of HOUSE (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT). The mysterious drama stars Sarah Jones (Sons of Anarchy), Jorge Garcia (Lost) and Sam Neill (Jurassic Park) as a unique team investigating the shocking reappearance of Alcatraz’s most notorious prisoners, 50 years after they vanished.
Please notice that the Touch preview in January follows American Idol, which sometimes runs long, so be prepared to be watching live or add some time at the end of your recording, just in case.
In addition, Fox announced that the March 12 episode of Alcatraz will be a two hour presentation beginning an hour early, at 8. Fox didn’t indicate whether it was one new two-hour episode or an encore at 8 and a new episode at 9. Regardless, that appears to be the hopefully-just-midseason finale, as Touch takes its place at 9 the following week.
They also confirmed that Fringe returns to its Fridays at 9/8c slot starting January 13.
So mark your calendars and bookmark this page, and do it now. That way, when the friends you see during the holidays say, “Hey, we should get together again in January or March!” you’ll know which evenings you won’t be available. And yes, we promise to remind you.
Alcatraz has its two-hour premiere on Monday, January 16 at 8/7 c, then takes its regular slot of Mondays at 9/8c on Monday, January 23 on Fox.
Touch debuts with a special one hour preview on Wednesday, January 25 at 9/8c, then takes its regular slot of Mondays at 9/8c on Monday, March 19 at 9/8c on Fox.
