It’s amazing how gullible and stupid people can be, especially when it comes to the internet.
While sites like twitter offer ethical people the opportunity to report legit news instantaneously, whether it be the Iranian Election or even TMZ reporting Michael Jackson’s death. I’m no great fan of TMZ, however when they report serious news they do make it a point to verify facts prior to spreading it throughout the world. Which is why they didn’t follow the Jeff Goldblum or Harrison Ford death rumors that started to spread on the same day that we lost both Farrah Fawcett and Michael Jackson.
I know, you’re thinking “no legitimate site reported on either of those, they were just tweeted rumors.. so, no one fell for them”. Well, that’s where you would be wrong.
Dig around, there are still stories posted on news sites both in the U.S. and in the U.K. about Goldblum’s death, the most recent that I’d come across was on UGO.com’s Movies blog.. which was frankly kind of shocking to me that they are really that ignorant. Not only did they post about his death but they chose to do an all out Tribute/Obituary (very well done, if he in fact were dead) but they didn’t bother to post a retraction, nor did they answer comments from their users on the site, informing them that it was bull shit.
I’m glad that not one of our faithful readers thought enough of the rumor to send me an email saying “why haven’t you posted anything about Goldblum dying?” that alone restores my faith in humanity to some degree.
The bottom line: Goldblum’s publicist Evelyn Karamanos said
“Reports that Jeff Goldblum has passed away are completely untrue. He is fine and in Los Angeles”
It goes without saying but, Harrison Ford is alive as well!
