In a world where centuries of war ravaged on between humans and vampires, a warrior priest (Bettany) disobeys the church in order to track down the vampires that have kidnapped his niece.

Bettany teams up with director Scott Stewart again for this production.  The pair have worked together on the upcoming film (also with a religious foundation), “Legion”.  Cam Gigandet (Twilight, Pandorum) co-stars.

Bettany talks about “Priest” at San Diego Comic-Con:

“Priest is partially based on the graphic novel. Their world in the comic and our world are quite different. The film is set in alternate reality and I play a vampire-slaying priest, which is really exciting for me.”

“The film has got a very Western and chic look to it. As an actor, it’s nice to go from doing an action film like “Legion” to doing the drama “Darwin” and then to come back and make an action movie where I get to slay vampires.”

Looks like the vampire trend in films is healthy and going strong.  What makes these vampires different?  Will they be more of the Reaper-type vampire (Guillermo del Toro’s Blade II)?  Bettany only gave one hint:

“Our vampires are gruesome, and let’s just say that stakes don’t do the trick.”

Priest” is due out August 13, 2010.
