First Look: Stephen Amell as ARROW

And yes, he is looking awesome. Also dark and moody and cool. We are thrilled to present the first look at Stephen Amell as Arrow, a pilot being developed for The CW that we desperately hope will be picked up. Especially now. This leather-clad hooded archer is looking decidedly like a man who can actually move, and perform heroic feats, with absolutely no hint of cheesiness. Check. Him. Out:

Deadline reports that the costume was designed by Tim Burton favorite Colleen Atwood (Alice in Wonderland). David Nutter, who is directing the pilot, also directed the pilot for Smallville, and had this to say about Arrow and his costume:

When I directed the pilot for Smallville, I knew that making Clark Kent relatable would be the key to audiences believing in him as a hero… Arrow is a different show — darker and harder-edged — but it’s the same core idea. We’re creating a real, believable world in which Oliver Queen can do incredible things. Colleen Atwood’s great work on the Arrow costume reflects that effort.

There is big love here for the fact that this look makes us believe in our Arrow-loving hearts that they will take this hero seriously, as director Nutter has indicated. Darker and harder-edged sounds fantastic. Please be true, and then PLEASE GET PICKED UP FOR A SERIES.

Arrow is currently being developed as a pilot for The CW based on the DC Comics hero Green Arrow, about billionaire playboy Oliver Queen, who returns home from being missing for five years after a shipwreck, with a new attitude and some exceptional skills. The script is being written by Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim and Andrew Kreisberg. Joining Amell in the cast are David Ramsey, Katie Cassidy, Susanna Thompson, Willa Holland, Colin Donnell, Colin Salmon, Paul Blackthorne, and Jamey Sheridan.
