We told you last week about the planned spinoff from The Vampire Diaries, to be titled The Originals, based on an episode of The Vampire Diaries coming in April. We also told you that Joseph Morgan, who plays original vampire – actually a hybrid, but never mind – Klaus in The Vampire Diaries, will star, along with Phoebe Tonkin, who plays werewolf Hayley on TVD.
But hmm, the show will be called The Originals, plural. Fortunately we didn’t have to wait long to learn who will be joining Klaus and Hayley: Elijah. Yes, Deadline has reported that Daniel Gillies, who played the sometimes generally good older brother will be joining the other two TVD veterans on the pilot, and presumably the show, should it be picked up to series.
We already knew that the show will be set in the French Quarter of New Orleans, which Klaus helped to found, and where he will be reunited with “diabolical protege” Marcel. But now Deadline also reports that Elijah will have to side with Marcel’s enemies in order to keep Klaus in line and hopefully help his self-destructive brother find redemption. Wait, wasn’t Elijah trying to kill Klaus at one point? Oh those crazy vampires.
That special setup episode, referred to as a “backdoor pilot,” is scheduled to air on April 25, and is written by The Vampire Diaries co-creator/executive producer Julie Plec, who will executive produce the series should it be picked up.
No order has yet been placed by The CW to take The Originals to series, but we’ll keep you posted.
