Fairy Godmother Cast in Kenneth Branaugh’s CINDERELLA

Helena

We’ve been reporting on all the latest casting news for Disney’s live action Cinderella directed by Kenneth Branaugh. So far we have Lily James (Downton Abbey) as Cinderella and Richard Madden (Game of Thrones) as her prince, while Cate Blanchett (The Hobbit) will be Cinderella’s wicked step-mother and Sophie McShera (Downton Abbey) and Holliday Granger (Anna Karenina) as her stepsisters. Today we can report on a most perfect fairy godmother casting.

Helena Bonham Carter (Alice in Wonderland, Harry Potter) has been cast in the role and according to THR, it’s no cameo. She’ll have a much bigger part. Here’s the description they’ve reported.

The fairy godmother will be getting more screen time in this version than in Disney’s classic animated movie, with the character disguised as an old beggar who watches over Cinderella before revealing herself as the magical being she truly is.

I cannot wait. She can easily pull off the bag lady and the fairy and I can’t wait to see what it looks like.

We’ll keep you posted on Disney’s Cinderella directed by Kenneth Branagh and starring Lily James, Richard Madden Sophie McShera, Holliday Granger, Helena Bonham Carter and Cate Blanchett.
