Following up on our exclusive interview with Jimmy Palmiotti and the big screen adaptation of Palmiotti and Phil Noto’s 2005 sci-fi western comic book miniseries, The New West, we have good news on the forward momentum in the development of this project.
According to THR, New Regency has picked up the project with Len Wiseman (Total Recall, Underworld) attached to produce. Benderspink, Jake Weiner, and Wizard magazine founder Gareb Shamus have been on board as producers.
We spoke with Palmiotti this weekend on this latest development and he “couldn’t be happier:”
“I just got the news this week and couldn’t be happier. Len has an amazing track record, has a great director’s eye, and is an excellent choice all around. I am excited to see what he has in store for The New West. This is great news.”
Wiseman is not attached to direct The New West at this point, but we’ll keep you updated. Did you catch our exclusive interview with Jimmy Palmiotti on The New West and his new collaborative project Creator Owned Heroes due out this month and his new Kickstarter project Retrovirus?

Synopsis (excerpt from our interview with Palmiotti):
“[New West] is a two-issue story where a pulse weapon is set off in L.A., the Mayor’s wife has been kidnapped, and we follow a police detective and his partner trying to track down the Mayor’s wife in a city that has been free of any electricity. So it sets up as our hero, because he won a bet, he got a horse. This retired cop actually gets to use his horse. Long story short, he has a samurai sword and a horse and he runs around L.A.”
