Back in April of last year, we brought you news that New Line Cinema and director Breck Eisner (The Crazies) had intended to re-make John Carpenter’s 1981 classic, Escape from New York. This project has been stuck in the development phase since 2007 and is up for grabs again.
Deadline reports that New Line is dropping Escape from New York from its line-up of projects in development. It will be interesting to see who picks up the title next and if they will be successful with bringing the eye-patch-wearing, bad ass Snake (played by Kurt Russell in 1981) back onto the big screen.
There had previously been rumors of Gerard Butler (300), Timothy Olyphant (Justified) and Tom Hardy (Inception) being interested in starring in the reboot, but nothing had been confirmed. Jeremy Renner (The Hurt Locker) was also rumored to be in contention of the role of Snake but it was confirmed later that he had not been offered the role.
