Breck Eisner (The Crazies) has signed on to helm the remake of John Carpenter‘s 1981 classic, Escape from New York for New Line Cinema. The project has veered in and out of production since 2007 and has previously had Len Wiseman (Live Free or Die Hard) and Brett Ratner (X-Men: The Last Stand) attached to direct.

THR says they will be sticking with Allan Loeb’s draft, which “tries to mix an origin story for anti-hero Snake Plissken and merge it with the story of the 1981 original.”
