DUNE: Paramount Pictures’ Remake Goes from Developing to Development Hell

Just over a year ago, we brought you the news about Pierre Morel (From Paris With Love, Taken) being hired to helm Paramount Pictures‘ proposed remake of Dune. Just a month later, Chase Palmer (Number 13) was hired to work on the script with Morel, who shortly thereafter stepped away from the project.

Now, Deadline reports that after four years of struggling to remake the new, big-screen adaptation of the classic Frank Herbert novel, they decided to let the project go. Paramount’s option on the project ran out and producer Richard P. Rubinstein, who holds the rights to the novel, did not grant an extension.

Rubeinstein said,

“I’m going to look at my options, and whether I wind up taking the script we developed in turnaround, or start over, I’m not sure yet.”

Rubinstein also said that he may try to get Pierre Morel and Chase Palmer attached to the project again at some point.
