This award for Outstanding Short-Format Live-Action Entertainment Program was newly created for the Emmys this year to recognize entertainment programs like a webseries.  It  was given out as part of the Creative Arts Primetime Emmys presented in Los Angeles for 2008-2009.

dr horrible badhorse letterIf you’re not yet familiar with this cult-hit, “Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog” is a 43 minute web musical that follows a wannabe supervillain, played by Neil Patrick Harris, and how he tries to gain membership into the Evil League of Evil.  Dr. Horrible must battle his nemesis Captain Hammer, played by Nathan Fillion and somehow balance that with a love interest in Penny, played by Felicia Day.

“Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog” was created by Joss Whedon and his brothers Zack Whedon (a TV writer) and Jed Whedon (a composer) and actress, Maurissa Tancharoen (writer/actress/wife of Jed Whedon/ rule of all Whedons).

Dr. Horrible hammered the competition which included Syfy’s Battlestar Galactica: The Face of the Enemy, written by Buffy writer, Jane Espenson, Bruce Springsteen Super Bowl Half Time Show, The Daily Show: The Daily Show Correspondents on Jon Stewart, and 30 Rock’s Kenneth the Web Page.

I am so happy that Dr. Horrible won!  It’s no secret that I’m a Whedonite and I’m just so pleased to see this unique piece of musical goodness win an Emmy!  Seriously, “the hammer is my penis”! … ok, that was awkward coming from me.  Pretend Nathan is saying that!
