DOCTOR WHO: Who Is “The Doctor’s Wife” and Will The Master Return?

Season six of the BBC’s Doctor Who is off to a strong start with an intriguing new villain and perils abound but this season’s third episode (technically, it is the fourth episode since the season opener is a two-parter) is stirring up quite a bit of fan frenzy. Neil Gaiman (Coraline, American Gods) has written this episode, titled “The Doctor’s Wife” and lucky for us, the BBC has just released the episode synopsis for Gaiman’s composition.

Doctor Who: Episode Synopsis for “The Doctor’s Wife”

The Doctor receives a distress signal from an old friend. Could there really be another living Time Lord out there? Hopes raised, he follows the signal to a junkyard planet sitting upon a mysterious asteroid in a Bubble universe, populated by a very strange family, as the time-traveling drama continues.

The Doctor, Amy and Rory are given the warmest of welcomes by Auntie, Uncle and Nephew. But the beautiful and insane Idris greets them in a more unusual fashion – what is she trying to tell the Doctor? As the Doctor investigates, he unwittingly puts his friends in the gravest danger.

The Doctor is played by Matt Smith, Amy by Karen Gillan, Rory by Arthur Darvill and Idris by Suranne Jones.

The Doctor’s Wife” will air on May 14, 2011.

And speaking of the last of the Time Lords, there has been some speculation that the Master, as played by John Simm, may return to the Doctor’s timeline once more. In an interview on “The One Show,” Simm said that he would be interested in reprising the role:
