As of this past weekend, “District 9” has made $200 million worldwide, for big budget-popcorn munching, Summer movie fare $200 million isn’t unheard of but remember that D9 only cost a measly $30 million to make. Sony has to be chomping at the bit for a sequel, considering the profit margin because of that.
Those close to producer Peter Jackson and director Neill Blomkamp say a sequel may happen “at some point” when the duo “figure out what the story is and organize their respective schedules”. (Peter is booked, and Neill is very much in demand now.)
