Did Walt Disney Pictures get beaten by this fairy tale reboot trend already? Back in August, we told you about Disney entering into the fairy tale smackdown with their own rendition of a new Snow White tale going up against Relativity Media’s Mirror Mirror and Universal Studios’ Snow White and the Huntsman.
Deadline reports that Disney has now stopped production on Order of the Seven that had Soairse Ronan attached to star as the lead and former Animal Logic visual effects artist and commercials director Michael Gracey at the helm. The story was to center on Snow White’s seven dwarves who are a “19th century-set disparate band of international warriors belonging to a centuries-old order who have lost their way. Their meeting with an Englishwoman being chased by an ancient evil is the catalyst for their redemption.” The story is set in China with an international cast of warriors, “each with a unique fighting style.”
Even though Disney had been working on Order of the Seven for the better part of a decade, this project is a no-go at this point. Word is that the decision came down to the unwieldy $150 million+ budget and the project was axed.
