Captain America: The First Avenger starring Chris Evans was a box office hit, and fans of the star-spangled superhero can’t wait until the second installment of the hero’s franchise hits theaters in 2014. Unfortunately, the sequel won’t be helmed by director Joe Johnston, and since last month, F. Gary Gray, and George Nolfi, along with Anthony Russo and Joe Russo, have been the top contenders to take over for Johnston.
Now, Variety reports that Anthony Russo and Joe Russo, executive producers of NBC’s Community and ABC’s Happy Endings, are in final negotiations to direct the sequel to Captain America: The First Avenger, penned by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely.
Captain America 2 starring Chris Evans is slated to hit theaters on April 4, 2014.
