Deadpool Movie Still Moving Forward, Will Ignore, Or Mock Appearance In Wolverine; X-Men 4 and 5 In Development

Just yesterday, we brought you those three Empire Magazine covers featuring the cast of director Matthew Vaughn‘s forthcoming X-Film, X-Men: First Class. Thankfully, Empire did a million times better with their covers than 20th Century Fox has managed to do with official posters for the film.

Within that issue of Empire, producer Lauren Shuler Donner reveals that the big-screen adaptation of Deadpool, for which Ryan Reynolds is still set to star is still in development, and she is calling it a reboot of the character.

“It’s a total reboot. We’re either going to pretend that X-Men Origins: Wolverine didn’t happen, or mock it, which he could do. It’s insane, it’s definitely comedy. But it’s an R script, it’s really irreverent and violent. Right away, we’re out of the X-Men world. He’s very involved, Ryan Reynolds. He’s working with the writers on the screenplay and it is as much his as it is ours. I’m tellin’ ya, it’s true to the comic. You’ll see all of them. You’ll see Wade Wilson, the good-looking Ryan Reynolds! You’ll see Deadpool in his costume and you’ll see the cancer-scarred face. We’re looking for a director.”

The producer also confirmed that the studio is, in fact working on two sequels to X-Men: The Last Stand. X-Men 4 will pick up where the 2006 film left off and that film will lead into X-Men 5.

“We took the treatment to Fox and they love it… And X-Men 4 leads into X-Men 5.”

Deadpool, X-Men 4 and X-Men 5 are in development.
