DAY ONE TV Series Cutback To A TV Movie

What has happened to NBC’s scifi show “Day One” gives the term ‘cutbacks’ a new meaning.  “Day One” was originally a TV series, and then it was scaled back to a single season show, and then just a miniseries.  Now, it has been cut back to merely a TV movie.  Angela Bromstad, president of NBC prime-time entertainment, explains the decision behind this move:

Day One is going to air as a two-hour movie. We looked at after V launched and after FlashForward launched with a strong initial thing. We didn’t want to come on after that. As we sat down with [executive producer] Jesse [Alexander] and talked about more of the mythology, there’s just concern about sustaining that.”

The “Day One” movie will be the pilot that was already shot.  Bromstad says:

“It will be a pilot where you could see where it could go in series, but there will be a resolve at the end of the two hours.”

If this pilot does well in the ratings, there might be a series yet.  Bromstad confirms this possibility:

“Absolutely. If it performs, absolutely.”

No word on when “Day One” will air though.  Keep it here on SciFi Mafia for the airdate!
