Darren Aronofsky Passes On Gangster Squad, One Step Closer To Wolverine 2

Just last week, we brought you the news that Darren Aronofsky was in active negotiations with 20th Century Fox to put him in the director’s chair for X-Men Origins: Wolverine 2. Because Hugh Jackman reportedly has the final say in who directs the follow-up to X-Men Origins: Wolverine, we thought that Aronofsky had the best shot at helming the sequel sue to their previous working relationship on The Fountain.

Now, Deadline reports that Aronofsky is no longer eyeing Tales from the Gangster Squad, as 20th Century Fox has offered him a $5 million paycheck against 5% of the grosses to helm X-Men Origins: Wolverine 2 instead. 20th Century Fox has yet to close the deal with Aronofsky, but an official announcement is expected soon.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine 2 is slated to hit theaters in 2012
