D.J. Caruso Confirmed To Direct Big Screen Adaptation of PREACHER

Back in April, Oscar-winning director Sam Mendes (Road to Perdition) abandoned the directors chair on the adaptation of Vertigo’s comic book series, Preacher. Producer Neal Moritz confirmed that Mendes left the project to helm MGM’s 23rd James Bond movie instead. Moritz stated that they were in discussions with another (unnamed) director to take on the project.

In October, Darren Aronofsky (Black Swan, The Wolverine) was the rumored frontrunner to take over the project for Columbia Pictures. Now, director D.J. Caruso (I Am Number Four) has confirmed via Twitter that he has completed the deal to helm the project.

John August (Frankenweenie) wrote the adaptation of the Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon graphic novel about a Texas preacher named Jesse Custer, who becomes possessed by a supernatural entity that is have angel and half demon. After this entity forces him to murder his entire congregation, he goes on a journey to literally find God, who has abandoned his place in heaven.

Preacher is slated to hit theaters in 2012.
