Just last week, we brought you the news when the folks over at MGM made an offer to Joel Kinnaman (The Darkest Hour) to play the title role in director José Padilha‘s (Elite Squad, Elite Squad 2) forthcoming remake of Robocop. Now, we have confirmation that Kinnaman will indeed be portraying the super-human cyborg.

Deadline reports that Kinnaman has signed on for the lead role in the Padilha directed remake, which was penned by Josh Zetumer (Quantum of Solace) and will be produced by Eric Newman and Marc Abraham (In Time) of Strike Entertainment.

RoboCop is slated to hit theaters on August 9th, 2013.
