Friday, Day Two of Comic-Con, was even crazier than Day One. Great announcements, countless great panels, great (as in the longest ever) lines, and a truly great surprise appearance. Historically, evenings at Comic-Con have been devoid of official programming other than advance screenings of tv episodes.
Sometimes people involved in the show make surprise appearances, and this year was no exception; Thursday night John Barrowman and Eve Myles showed up at the advanced screening for Torchwood. Friday night Syfy had advanced screenings scheduled for the next episodes of Eureka and Haven, and the premiere of the pilot of the web series Mercury Men. The program listed Eric Balfour of Haven as hosting the event, and we had heard during the recent Q&A session with Emily Rose that she was hoping to make it as well. Both were in fact there and thanked everyone for coming.
Next, though, we were surprised by Colin Ferguson, Salli Richardson-Whitfield, Wil Wheaton, and Felicia Day appearing to thank everyone for attending the Eureka advance screening of next Monday’s episode. But that wasn’t all.
Even though SciFi Mafia posted the news some time ago that Stan Lee would be making a cameo appearance in a Eureka episode this half-season, the room was totally taken by surprise and went wild when the man walked out onto the stage. This wasn’t a panel per se, just an appearance, but after most of them waved and left the stage, Mr. Lee came back out.
He walked to the lectern and asked people to get on Twitter and email and use our power… to ask the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for a category entitled “Cameo Appearances.” No, we didn’t care that he was asking for an Oscar for a tv performance; we just loved him. Then he raised his arms, yelled “Excelsior!” and left the stage.
WE LOVE COMIC-CON!
