Comic-Con 2010: Green Lantern – First Look at Abin Sur and More Movie Details

We told you way back in March that Temuera Morrison (Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith) had been cast as the iconic pre-Hal Jordan ringbearer of Sector 2814, Abin Sur. Now, thanks to some intrepid folks snapping shots on the floor of San Diego Comic-Con, we have our first look at Abin Sur. Actually, it’s Abin Sur’s corpse because as you (should) know – Sur dies and passes his ring on to Hal Jordan (Ryan Reynolds). Check out the pics and a bit more info on the film below!

… in other Green Lantern news – An article popped up over on Brazilian entertainment site, Omelete which reveals details on the Green Lantern movie(s), the characters, the plot, and details for the planned sequels! Check out a breakdown of what they had to say below. I have no clue how reliable this intel is, so consider it mostly rumor for now.

  1. The CGI of the suit seen on the Entertainment Weekly cover is not finished. The mask was photoshopped. The real mask will look more physical and not painted on his face.
  2. The film will be based mainly on “Secret Origins”.
  3. 25 alien Green Lanterns (outside the Guardians of the Universe), each with a different energy signature, were designed for major and minor roles in the movie.
  4. A key-scene in the third act will feature all the 3,600 Green Lanterns.
  5. Parallax will have a different origin from the comic books.
  6. Sinestro’s mustache will be untouched (thin and divided to the corners of his mouth). His look was based mainly on Ivan Reis’ drawings from Green Lantern vol. 4
  7. Writers have already outlined ideas for both the second and  third movie, including Sinestro’s downfall; The Sinestro Corps War; the destruction of Coast City; Hal Jordan becoming Parallax and etc.
  8. One of the main alien members of the Lantern Corps. is a completely original character designed by Ivan Reis (Blackest Night).

Green Lantern is slated to hit theaters on June 17, 2010.
