This past summer, we reported to you that the sequel to Sony Pictures Animation, Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs would employ Horrible Bosses writers John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein. The story for the sequel in fact not follow Ron and Judi Barrett’s follow-up children’s book, Pickles to Pittsburgh. Instead, this film is to be “based on an original idea.”
According to Variety, Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs 2 will be directed by a team of Sony Animation’s own artists, Cody Cameron and Kris Pearn, both of which had worked on the first film. Cameron was a story artist and Pearn was head of story. Phil Lord and Chris Miller who directed the original, will be executive producing.
Meatballs 2 has not officially received a greenlight yet but they have veteran Sony Animation producer Kirk Bodyfelt working on this project’s development.
Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs followed a zany inventor, Flint Lockwood, who invents a machine that turns precipitation into food but a greedy mayor causes this blessing to get out of hand. Cloudy had grossed $125 million domestically with an additional $118 million worldwide.
No release date has been set yet for the sequel to Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs.
