Starting tonight, NBC is presenting a one-two punch of action-comedies with a back-to-back presentation of fan-favorite, Chuck and newcomer superhero series, The Cape. The Cape’s two-hour pilot preview two Sundays ago gave viewers a taste of TV’s newest superhero, but its strategic pairing with Chuck should capitalize on Chuck’s faithful viewing audience as well as establish a rhythm for fun-tastic action and cheeky humor between the two shows.
You don’t have to be a geek or a comic book reader to appreciate Chuck or The Cape. Both shows have wide appeal. Chuck isn’t pulling any punches with the plethora of guest stars this season (including Linda Hamilton and Timothy Dalton for starters) and The Cape isn’t boxing itself into a genre either as show creator, Tom Wheeler, explains:
“We’re throwing open our arms to all audiences. Initially it’s this comic-book show, but what we’re finding is you can be a fan of many different genres and there’s a door open to you. There’s a romantic storyline about this couple that’s in love. You see in flashbacks, we root for this couple to get together. There’s suspense and mystery. There’s almost an X-Files feeling to one episode we just finished. It’s just really scary and intense. The comic-book fan can drop in and have a great ride with really colorful villains. If you want some great drama, there’s more than enough for you.”
