CHRIS EVANS Offered Lead Role In The First Avenger: Captain America

Marvel Studios has reportedly offered the role of the Star-Spangled Superhero in The First Avenger: Captain America to Chris Evans. There has not been any official confirmation from Marvel Studios or Evans’ representatives yet, but THR claims that the Fantastic Four actor has been offered the role, and if he accepts, Evans would commit to up to three movies based on the character, as well as The Avengers and other unnamed Marvel movies.

As you likely remember, Evans played Johnny Storm in both Fantastic Four movies, and plays Jensen in the upcoming adaptation of the DC/Vertigo series by Andy Diggle and Jock, titled The Losers. Evans also has a role in Edgar Wright‘s Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World, which is based on the comic book series by Bryan Lee O’Malley, where Evans will portray skater-turned-actor Lucas Lee.

Evans does have a scheduling conflict that may come in to play with taking the role of Cap. He is committed to co-starring along side Anna Faris in the romantic comedy What’s Your Number?. Both films are scheduled to shoot this summer.

The First Avenger: Captain America is slated to hit theaters on July 22, 2011.
