Check Out the Extended Trailer for TNT’s THE LAST SHIP

We’ve been telling you about TNT‘s upcoming series The Last Ship since we first heard about it way back in May, 2012, as a pilot in development. In May, 2013, TNT released a trailer for the series. It looked pretty good then. Now it looks oddly familiar. It’s set in the arctic. There’s an outbreak. Haz-mat suits are employed.

Look out, kids, it seems that, thanks to Syfy‘s Helix and TNT‘s The Last Ship, 2014 just may be the Year of the Outbreak. And in fiction, we here at SciFi Mafia are good with that. It’s a virulent source (sorry) for some excellent sci-fi terror. Just as there is room for Grimm and Once Upon a TimeThe Walking Dead and The Returned, there is absolutely room for Helix and The Last Ship.

Here’s a look at the new “extended” trailer (it’s shorter than the first trailer), and another look at the first trailer, followed by the synopsis that was presented to the TCA, which adds a little to the synopsis previously issued:

Trailer: The Last Ship – Extended

Trailer: The Last Ship

TNT will present The Last Ship, a new original drama series from Michael Bay coming to the network in summer 2014. Based on William Brinkley’s popular novel, The Last Ship opens with a global catastrophe that nearly decimates the world’s population. Because of its positioning, the Navy destroyer U.S.S. Nathan James avoids falling victim to the devastating tragedy. But now its crew must confront the reality of their new existence in a world where they are among the few survivors.

So yes, we also have a Big Name Producer tied to the production, just like with Helix, but we have obvious differences, not the least of which is that in Helix the outbreak begins in the arctic, in The Last Ship the crewmembers avoid the outbreak because they were in the arctic. I love Helix, and I’m hoping to love The Last Ship as well. Bring ’em on!

The Last Ship, starring Eric DaneRhona MitraAdam Baldwin, and Tracy Middendorf, premieres summer 2014 on TNT.
