Hot off the release of his futuristic take on classism in Elysium, Neill Blomkamp’s (pictured above) Chappie has started gathering it’s cast. Sony Pictures and Media Rights Capital are producing the new sci-fi flick that’s already begun production in South Africa. Today we have a nice little synopsis and casting round up for you. Picture this:

After being kidnapped by two criminals during birth, Chappie becomes the adopted son in a strange and dysfunctional family. Chappie is preternaturally gifted, one of a kind, a prodigy. He also happens to be a robot.

Very interesting indeed! And here’s the line up! First up we have (pictured above from left to right) Hugh Jackman (The Wolverine) and Sigourney Weaver (Alien) in our major (unnamed) lead roles along with Dev Patel (The Last Airbender).

Also on board to star in the film are Sharlto Copley (Elysium) as the voice of Chappie, Brandon Auret (Elysium) as Hippo, and Jose Pablo Cantillo (Elysium) as Yankie. Yolandi Visser and Watkin Tudor Jones Jr. A.K.A. Ninja (pictured far right together) of the South African rap/rave group Die Antwood will also be starring as themselves. This all courtesy of confirmation from THR.

It’s really great to see the reunion of actors who like to work together, and I’m very interested to see how Die Antwood features in the film. We will be sure to keep you posted on the latest for Chappie.
