Casting Begins for The CW’s Pilot THE SELECTION

Here’s an interesting twist. We’ve been telling you about movies and pilots and TV shows that seem to have similar themes and even similar titles. But one of the pilots in development for The CW, entitled The Selection, is a combination of popular ideas: it’s Hunger Games meets Cinderella meets The Bachelor.

It’s described as an epic romance set 300 years in the future, when a poor young woman is selected by lottery to be a contestant in a competition to marry Prince Maxon and become queen of a war-torn country at a crossroads.

Casting is underway for the show, as Deadline has reported that Friday Night LightsAimee Teegarden has been cast as the young woman, whose name is America Singer, and that Ethan Peck (In Time), grandson of Gregory Peck, has been cast as Prince Maxon. Word is that Maxon has an unusual run-in with potential bride America and is impressed and intrigued with her honesty and moxie. So I guess we add “Snow White in Once Upon a Time” to the mashup.

We’ll keep you posted.
