Here we are, living in that magical time after an amazing show is announced. We can imagine all sorts of wonder emanating from the exceptional people involved, and hope and pray that it will see the light of day and be even more spectacular than we dreamed. This. Is. That. Time.

The source of all of this fantasizing is the announcement by Deadline that a trilogy of vampire books written by feature film writer/director/producer Guillermo del Toro (Pan’s Labyrinth, Pacific Rim) and Chuck Hogan (Prince of Thieves) entitled The Strain has received a pilot commitment from FX. The pilot, about a virus that turns people into vampires, will be directed and produced by del Toro and co-written by del Toro and Hogan.

The entire series would be 3-5 seasons and follow the books, though subplots which didn’t make it into print may find their way onto scripts. Del Toro has stated that work on the pilot will begin at the end of the year, to be broadcast in September, 2013.

But wait, there’s more! The showrunner for the project, should it be picked up, will be Lost co-showrunner Carlton Cuse – yes, even though he’ll already be running Bates Motel for A&E. COME ON, FX, LET’S DO THIS!
