The remaining rumored contenders for the role of Captain America in the Joe Johnston directed Marvel film, include Chace Crawford (Gossip Girl), John Krasinski (The Office) and Mike Vogel (Cloverfield). This was deduced after Smallville actor Michael Cassidy was one of five names on the rumored contenders list announced on Twitter that he is not in the running for the role, saying “No Captain America for me” – and Scott Porter (Friday Night Lights) posted a message on his facebook page that he was no longer in the running for the role either, stating “Ain’t Cap. Thank you all for the prayers though, I appreciate them all so very much.”

Jensen Ackles (Supernatural) and Garrett Hedlund (Tron Legacy) were reportedly being considered at one point but were unable to shoot recent screen tests.
