Captain America Casting: Krasinski Is Out, New Actors In The Running?

Just yesterday, John Krasinski (The Office) was the reported frontrunner for the lead role in The First Avenger: Captain America, but that doesn’t appear to be the case. Now, THR is reporting that Krasinski was just signed for a two picture romantic comedy deal “Something Borrowed” that starts shooting this Spring, which would most likely conflict with the Captain America shooting schedule.

According to Deadline, Wilson Bethel (Generation Kill), Mike Vogel (Cloverfield), Chris Evans (Fantastic Four, The Losers) and Garrett Hedlund (Tron Legacy) are reading for the role, have tested or have received test offers.

As we previously reported, other actors who have tested include – Michael Cassidy, Chace Crawford, Scott Porter and Patrick Flueger all of whom are supposedly no longer under consideration. The role reportedly calls for a nine-picture deal, the second film being The Avengers.

In a slightly scary turn, actor/comedian Dane Cook revealed on Twitter that he had auditioned for the role of Cap., but Marvel decided to “go younger”. There’s also an absurd rumor started by Hollywire.com that Joe and Kevin Jonas (The Jonas Brothers) have auditioned for the role as well.

Of course, with none of this being officially confirmed by the studio – we may end up with a totally different name taking the role of our Star-Spangled hero!

The First Avenger: Captain America is slated to hit theaters on July 22, 2011.
