Been wondering what Battlestar Galactica reboot co-creator and co-showrunner Ronald D. Moore has been doing since Caprica? Apparently, he’s been working on a new series, and also apparently it’s great, as it has been given a pass through the pilot stage and goes straight to series for Syfy.
The series is called Helix, and according to Deadline, who broke the news, it’s supposed to go into production in early 2013 – wait, isn’t that now? – and will hit our screens later this year. And the even better news? Steven Maeda will be the showrunner. He wrote four episodes in Season 2 of Lost, including “The Long Con,” and also wrote for Daybreak and The X-Files.
The series is reportedly about a team of scientists who are investigating a disease outbreak up in the arctic circle and end up having to protect the world from annihilation. So, not unheard of, but imagine it coming from BSG and Lost writers. YES PLEASE.
Syfy‘s president of original content Mark Stern says, “With its well-drawn characters, taut drama, and incredible production team, we couldn’t be more excited to see this intense thrill-ride of a series come to life,” which is the kind of thing you’d expect him to say, but still, I CANNOT WAIT to check out this series from Ron Moore and Steven Maeda.
We will absolutely keep you posted.
