According to AICN, the producers of The Hobbit have started casting “dwarves”, and their “tried and trusted sources” say that one person of interest that they want to cast is Brian Cox. He is reportedly a major contender for a dwarf character.

This is total rumor at this point but I do think Brian Cox has the gruff, Gimli type voice and personality to pull off a role of that type. This is the second casting story this week about Brian Cox, you may remember that he was just cast as a former cold war foe of Bruce Willis’ character in the ensemble cast adaptation of the WildStorm Comic RED.
