Synopsis:
Visionary filmmaker Ridley Scott returns to the genre he helped define, creating an original science fiction epic set in the most dangerous corners of the universe. The movie takes a team of scientists and explorers on a thrilling journey that will test their physical and mental limits and strand them on a distant world, where they will discover the answers to our most profound questions and to life’s ultimate mystery.
With an introduction by Scott himself, this lavish book will be the only publication to accompany Prometheus. Stunning production art and behind the scenes photos will grant the reader a window on the process of creating this astounding new epic.
Prometheus: Art of the Film is a heavyweight hardcover book, packed from start to finish with fantastic illustrations, concept art, and so much more. The book starts with a foreword penned by director Ridley Scott, which sees the director detailing his long trip back to the world he created with 1979’s Alien.
Aside from Scott’s foreward, the book presents essays about the film from the likes of writers Jon Spaights and Damon Lindelof, special effects supervisor Neal Scanlan, and production designer Arthur Max. In addition to the aforementioned essays and artwork, the book also contains storyboards from the film, set construction, costume designs, pre-production models, and 3D renderings of the alien life and vehicles in the film.
Being a huge fan of almost all “Art of” books, it’s difficult not to drool over the plethora of glossy pages contained in this slickly designed hardcover. While Prometheus: Art of the Film isn’t perfect, it’s pretty close. One place where this book outshines previous books like The Book of Alien is, rather than just adding snippets and quotes as a seeming afterthought, this book contains some detailed text throughout the book and strikes a great balance between that and the imagery. If you’re a Ridley Scott/Alien/Prometheus fan, or simply a fan of “Art of” books, this is definitely a must buy.
I give Prometheus: Art of the Film Five out of Five Stars.
