Synopsis:
Beautiful LEGO 2: Dark showcases dark LEGO masterpieces from artists around the world. From realistic sculptures of creepy crawlers to impressionist works of shadowy nightmares, this collection will leave you marveling at every turn. But dark has its lighter side, too—with sculptures of dark chocolate as well as plenty of black humor on display.

Gothic fantasies and sci-fi horrors come to life in scenes created entirely with the simple LEGO brick. Step into a world of pure imagination in Beautiful LEGO 2: Dark.

I can’t compare Beautiful LEGO 2: Dark to Beautiful LEGO because I haven’t checked it out, but this is an art book that no doubt stands alone.

It is amazing to see the creations of LEGOs that are inspired by real life, movies or what this book clearly contains, nightmares. Now Beautiful LEGO 2: Dark isn’t all scary, but it is, without any other clear theme, dark.

Some of the movie recreations aren’t scary and sometimes they are definitely scary. Then there are slick cars, bugs, animals, creatures of nightmares, creatures of movies, dinosaurs, and on and on. My favorites were a couple of the creations where there was a giant creature that was destroying a large human vessel. Those were filled with not only the amazing creatures, combined with the hard edges of the vessel, but the drama between the two was a sight!

This book is a compilation, so if you’re familiar with LEGO art books, then you will likely see creations from other books that you recognize. Even though I’m am relatively well versed in these books, there was still plenty to keep me thrilled turning the pages.

The only thing that stood out to me as disappointing was that the chapter definition was just a note at the top of the page rather than a distinctive change of gears. It’s also important to note that this book is all about the art. There are no instructions on how to build any of the creations.

I give Beautiful LEGO 2: Dark Five Out of Five Stars.
