I really like a good suspense movie now and then, and it never hurts to add a bit of the fantastic to the mix, and 6 Souls is a really great blend of both. Not only does Adam (Jonathan Rhys Meyers) seem to have some sort of strange multiple personality disorder, but there seems to be something more otherworldly and sinister going on as well.

As we follow this story of a doctor and patient both struggling with their own issues, you can really get the sense that these actors enjoyed working together and acting off each other.

See, the story and the cinematography were great but what is really at the heart of this movie is the acting. You cannot go wrong with Julianne Moore (Cara) and Jonathan Rhys Meyers (Adam). The control that Jonathan Rhys Meyers has over the tiniest muscles in his face is pretty amazing not to mention some of the more heavy facial contortions he does as well.

As a side note the movie was originally titled Shelter, which I actually like better than the title 6 Souls. I think it adds more to the mystery of the story where I felt like the working title took away. This DOES NOT diminish the quality of the movie.

The overall most disappointing thing for me was the complete lack of special features on the Blu-ray. If I’m going to invest in a hard copy of a movie then I feel like I should be getting something extra that isn’t included in a viewing on TV or the internet and there isn’t anything other than a great copy of the movie included. Here are the specs.

6 SOULS BLU-RAY ™
Format: Widescreen Presentation
Audio: 5.1 DTSHD-MA

6 SOULS DVD
Format: Widescreen Presentation
Audio: Dolby Digital 5.1

I’d really like to give the movie itself 4 out of 5 stars based on the the movie alone. Even though I’m not sure that I’d watch it more than a handful of times, I’ll definitely watch it again. I have to take an additional full star away because this is a review of the Blu-ray itself, and even a featurette on the locations would have been better than nothing.

I give 6 Souls Blu-ray 3 Out of 5 Stars.
