Big-Screen Adaptation of HEAVY RAIN To Be Penned By Deadwood Creator

Back in May of last year, we told you that Bob Shaye and Michael Lynne of Unique Features had posted the top bid on behalf of game developers Quantic Dream in an auction to acquire the film rights to the PlayStation 3 game Heavy Rain. The game was written and directed by Quantic Dream‘s founder and CEO David Cage.

Now, Variety reports that Deadwood creator/writer David Milch (Luck) has signed on to adapt the noir-style videogame for Unique Features which has a first-look deal with Warner Bros. Pictures.

The game Heavy Rain has sold more than one million copies since it’s February 2010 release. The story is a dramatic thriller centered around four protagonists involved with the mystery of the Origami Killer, a serial killer who uses extended periods of rainfall to drown his victims and leaves only a small origami figure and an orchid on the corpse. Ethan Mars is a father who is trying to save his son from being the next victim, while investigative journalist Madison Paige, FBI profiler Norman Jayden, and private detective Scott Shelby are each trying to track down clues to the Origami Killer’s identity.

As of yet, no production or release dates have been set for Heavy Rain.
