Berg’s BATTLESHIP Will Not Be Shot In 3D

Universal’s BATTLESHIP (directed by Peter Berg (Hancock) has been set up as a major tentpole with it’s release slated for Memorial Day 2012. Contrary to previous reports on the film, there are no plans to shoot it in 3-D. According to Hasbro CEO and producer Brian Goldner, the film won’t start off with giant explosions like a lot of Sci-Fi/Action films that share Battleship’s plot of alien visitors either.

Goldner says,

“I think it’s a really unique story and unlike a lot of those other alien stories this is really not about aliens that came here to do us harm, so I think you’ll find the story really interesting in that it doesn’t begin as a fight.”

While it is possible that Berg could shoot Battleship in 2-D, and then convert it to 3-D, like Warner Bros. did with Clash of the Titans – Goldner seems confident that Battleship won’t need any gimmicks.

Goldner said,

“No discussion of 3-D at this point, I think that this is going to be a big spectacle in and out of itself.”
