Bendis Talks About the New Ultimate Comics: Spider-Man

Brian Michael Bendis sat down to talk about the new Ultimate Comics Spider-Man #1 that hits stores in September. The new series, which features art by Sarah Pichelli, will feature an all-new webslinger. But in spite of a new look and new identity, Bendis promises that not everything will change.

Blow Sh!t Up

“There is obviously some truths to the world of Spider-Man that if you take them away, it’s just not Spider-Man anymore, they’re even more important than Peter Parker,” Bendis said. “Those elements of what Spider-Man means, and what he stands for, will continue into the new series. Will there be new characters? There will be some of the characters from the older series returning. We don’t want to say who yet.”

Though that doesn’t mean everything will be the same. We already know that the mysterious new web slinger is not Peter Parker. Along with a new secret identity Ultimate Spider-Man is getting new powers.

“There will be new powers, different powers than you’ve seen before,” Bendis said. “Did some spider-research, found some cool things that I think will make this new Spider-Man even more interesting, as we discover more and more about him.”

It was thought that the Death of Spider-Man event would be Bendis’ dramatic exit from Marvel’s Ultimate Universe, but nothing could be further from the truth. He likes what he does and he’s especially excited to be working with Sarah Pichelli.

“She’s the find of the century…a completely unique and talented force in comic art.”
