And unfortunately it isn’t quite what we were hoping for. We showed you the trailer for Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome yesterday, that had been presented at WonderCon last weekend by sci-fi science consultant Dr. Kevin Grazier at the end of his panel on the science of Battlestar Galactica.
According to Deadline, that was no official trailer. It was a demo reel, not intended for the public and therefore not not put through the process of clearing music and other rights. It’s currently unclear how the reel made its way into WonderCon and that panel; maybe it’s a mystery of science!
The point, however, is that the trailer going viral did in fact elicit a response from Syfy president of original programming, Mark Stern. By way of background, Blood & Chrome was originally conceived as an online series. It wasn’t until fall of 2010 that Syfy gave the greenlight to the pilot to develop as a regular Syfy series. Unfortunately the large amount of post-production work required delayed delivery of the pilot until November 2011. Here’s the statement by Stern:
Though the vision for Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome has evolved over the course of the past year, our enthusiasm for this ambitious project has not waned… We are actively pursuing it as was originally intended: a groundbreaking digital series that will launch to audiences beyond the scope of a television screen. The 90-minute pilot movie will air on Syfy in its entirety at a future date.
So, we will get to see the pilot, and we may get to see the series developed, somewhere. Okay, we can live with that.
We’ll keep you posted, of course.
