Walt Disney Pictures has announced that they have cast French actress, Astrid Bergès-Frisbey in the upcoming film, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. Bergès-Frisbey will play ‘Syrena’, a beautiful and alluring young mermaid encountered by Captain Jack Sparrow.

Bergès-Frisbey is one of France’s most in-demand young stars, and has appeared in French films La Premiere Etoile and Un Barrage Contre le Pacifique, in addition to the French stage production of Peter Shaffer’s Equus. Bergès-Frisbey joins a cast that already includes Johnny Depp, Ian McShane, Geoffrey Rush and Penelope Cruz.
