Anne Hathaway and Christopher Nolan Talk THE DARK KNIGHT RISES

Back in January, Warner Bros. Pictures officially announced that Anne Hathaway (Love and Other Drugs) had been cast as Selina Kyle, and Tom Hardy (Inception, Warrior) had been set to play Bane in director Christopher Nolan‘s forthcoming, final entry in his Bat-Trilogy, The Dark Knight Rises.

Because Anne Hathaway‘s character was listed as only Selina Kyle and nothing was officially mentioned of Kyle’s alter ego, Catwoman, some speculated that the famous whip-toting burglar may not be making a costumed appearance in the film.

Now, thanks to Batman-News, we may have some clarification on that from Hathaway herself. The actress appeared in a post-Oscar interview with Oprah Winfrey and was asked what it was like being asked to host the Oscars.

Hathway said,

“I was waiting to hear back… to hear if I’d been cast as Catwoman. My manager called me and asked if I was sitting down – and I just go “oh my god, hear it comes”. She was like, “you’re about to hear something you’ll never hear again in your whole life” and she said “you’ve been asked to host The Oscars”, and I’m like “I’m Catwoman… what?”

Director Christopher Nolan was recently cornered on the red carpet at the Academy Awards by MTV and asked to comment on the recent castings of Tom Hardy and Anne Hathaway. The director said,

“Once you see the film in 2012 you will completely understand why they were the perfect choice for these characters.”

Christopher Nolan will direct the film from a screenplay he co-wrote with Jonathan Nolan, from a story by Christopher Nolan and David S. Goyer. Goyer will also produce the film with Charles Roven and Nolan’s longtime producing partner, Emma Thomas.

The Dark Knight Rises is slated to hit theaters on July 20th, 2012.
