A couple of weeks ago, producer Avi Lerner (Conan the Barbarian, Kane & Lynch) revealed that Red Sonja is spinning back into production and that Simon West (The Mechanic) is in talks to helm the film. Lerner also said that he has his sights sent on Amber Heard (Drive Angry 3D, The Rum Diary) to become the new Red Sonja:

“We’re talking to a few girls for the role of Sonja, but we just finished a movie called Drive Angry with Amber Heard, and I want to see her. She’s my favorite for the role. Amber is the new Red Sonja… but she doesn’t know it yet!”

In a recent interview with moviefone about her current film, Drive Angry 3D, Heard had this to say about Lerner’s comments:

“I was sort of surprised to hear about it, yeah. I think (producer) Avi (Lerner) even said himself, “She doesn’t know it yet.” So I was surprised, but also it’s something I’ve been looking at for a while and kind of interested in. I’m definitely interested in being a part of it, but that’s all I can kind of comment on right now.”

Red Sonja is currently in development.
