After coming in on issue #20 with a bang, Ales Kot has announced that he is officially done with DC Comic‘s Suicide Squad. The writer, best known for his work with Image Comics, is being replaced by Matt Kindt for this October’s issue #24.
Kot made the announcement on his Tumblr account, stating the following:
Dear readers —
Since the solicitations for October’s DC titles came out, I was repeatedly asked if I am no longer writing Suicide Squad. Yes, Matt Kindt is writing SS #24 and I am no longer writing Suicide Squad. Matt’s “3 Story” is one of my favorite graphic novels I read in the last few years and I look forward to reading “Mind MGMT” when I finally find the time to buy the first hardcover collection, which you can find here. Matt Kindt is a very capable storyteller who is doing exciting things in the comics medium and I wish him great things.
I killed my deadlines, I wrote my best, and I have no regrets whatsoever.
Thank you for the ride, for your support, for everything.
Have wonderful days and nights.”
Fans of Kot‘s work can rest easy, as he also used the announcement to plug his upcoming title Zero, co-created with artist Michael Walsh. The Image Comics title is expected to hit comic shops this September.
Fans shouldn’t expect much in the way of an announcement from DC, as the publishing giant rarely makes public comments regarding creative department shuffles and departures. Kot‘s departure is just one in a series of last minute creative changes that have swept the publishing company since it launched its New 52 brand almost 2 years ago.
