Akira: Ezra Miller Has Passed On the Role of Tetsuo; More Actors Line Up

Just two days ago, we brought you the news about Kristen Stewart (Snow White and the Huntsman) being in negotiations to take on the lead female role of Kei in the Jaume Collet-Serra (Unknown) directed live-action adaptation of Katsuhiro Otomo‘s graphic novel Akira.

Just a bit before that announcement, we brought you a story about Ezra Miller (The Perks of Being a Wallflower) and Alden Ehrenreich (Running Wild, Tetro) both reportedly reading for the part of Tetsuo, Kaneda’s (Garrett Hedlund) best friend, and a young man with telekinetic abilities who becomes a dangerous weapon.

In a recent interview with Moviefone, Miller told them that he opted to pass on the role:

“It’s not true, That, I can assure you, will not be a reality. It’s a beautiful Japanese epic and I think it’ll be a very entertaining, fun film, but no, it’s not my next move”.

THR is reporting that Alden Ehrenreich, along with Paul Dano (Cowboys & Aliens) is re-testing for the role. Other actors said to be reading for the part are D.J. Cotrona (G.I.Joe 2: Retaliation), Logan Marshal Green (Prometheus), Toby Kebbell (Clash of the Titans 2), Richard Madden (Game of Thrones), Rami Malek (Twilight: Breaking Dawn—Part 2), and Michael Pitt (Boardwalk Empire).

Akira is slated to hit theaters in 2013.
