It appears not even the gang from Riverdale is immune to a zombie plague. Afterlife with Archie will be highlighted at this Saturday’s Archie Comics panel, which is set to include Archie Comics publisher/co-CEO Jon Goldwater, president Mike Pellerito, executive director of editorial Paul Kaminski, cartoonist Dan Parent, iVerse Media CEO Michael Murphey and Gogii Games president George Donovan.

The trailer for the comic (which debuted on hollywoodreporter.com) shows the normally picturesque town of Riverdale overrun with the undead corpses of its former residents. Written by Roberto Aguirre-Sacas and drawn by Francesco Francavillam, Afterlife with Archie promises to be a little darker than your typical Archie and friends adventure.

“It’s dark in that the Archie gang is fighting for their lives and survival, and there is a body count,” says Aguirre-Sacasa. “But if you think of the Evil Dead movies Sam Raimi did or even Peter Jackson‘s zombie movie Dead Alive, there was always definitely a sense of humor about it. It wasn’t tongue-in-cheek or campy, but it was fun.”

You can look for Afterlife with Archie to shamble into comic shops this coming October.
