ABC’s Beauty and the Beast Pilot Casting Begins

Together we can do this; we can keep these Beauty and the Beast shows straight. As a quick reminder, the Beauty and the Beast pilot project by CBS Studios for The CW (sorry, I know that doesn’t help de-confuse) is the reboot of the 1980s TV series with Linda Hamilton and Ron Perlman.

The ABC Beauty and the Beast pilot is a “reimagining” of the classic tale. An easy way to remember? ABC is owned by Disney, who did the animated Beauty and the Beast and is doing Once Upon a Time, all of which is kinda based on the classic tale.

The ABC pilot is the show we’re talking about today. They have now cast several of the parts, and wow it the list runs the gamut from unknown to Oscar winner. It will help for you to know the storyline: roughly, an “embattled” princess, Grace (stop rolling your eyes), engaged to someone named Gorrick, discovers an unlikely connection with a mysterious beast, Shiro, a mercenary bodyguard.

Grace has not been cast yet. Shiro has been, however, and it’s someone you’ve likely never heard of before. According to Deadline, Scottish platinum-selling singer and stage actor Darius Campbell will be the beast mercenary bodyguard Shiro. No, I don’t get it either, but I’m sure it will all become clear. Grace’s fiance Gorrick will be played by Australian Christopher Egan (Resident Evil: Extinction). And the biggest name in the cast is F. Murray Abraham (Amadeus) who will be playing Emperor Dorian’s trusted, and unfortunately potentially duplicitous, advisor, the Chancellor.

We’ll do our best to keep it all straight, and we’ll definitely keep you posted.
