A Few Staying and a New Addition Cast for THE SELECTION Second Try Pilot

Back near the end of January we reported that The CW’s pilot for The Selection had been green lighted. This book-turned-television pilot was cast early last year and filmed in October, but failed to resonate with testing audiences. It was given a new rewrite on the script, a new director, and a new leading lady.

Previously cast actors Sean Patrick Thomas (Save the Last Dance) and Peta Sergeant (best known for her lead role in the Australian television series Satisfaction) will be reprising their roles as Sylvan Santos and Gaia Woods.

The former lead Aimee Teegarden (Friday Night Lights) will be replaced by Yael Grobglas to play America Singer, according to Deadline, and though she is a virtual unknown in the U.S. she has played the lead in the Israeli series Tanuhi (Give It A Rest).

Here’s the book synopsis for The Selection.

For thirty-five girls, the Selection is the chance of a lifetime. The opportunity to escape the life laid out for them since birth. To be swept up in a world of glittering gowns and priceless jewels. To live in a palace and compete for the heart of gorgeous Prince Maxon.

But for America Singer, being Selected is a nightmare. It means turning her back on her secret love with Aspen, who is a caste below her. Leaving her home to enter a fierce competition for a crown she doesn’t want. Living in a palace that is constantly threatened by violent rebel attacks.

Then America meets Prince Maxon. Gradually, she starts to question all the plans she’s made for herself–and realizes that the life she’s always dreamed of may not compare to a future she never imagined.

The Selection is produced by Elizabeth Craft and Sarah Fain who worked together on Dollhouse and The Shield, and Alex Graves (The West Wing), who will also be directing the pilot.

We’ll keep you posted on the latest for The CW‘s pilot The Selection starring Yael Grobglas, Sean Patrick Thomas, and Peta Sergeant.
